The quote: Widespread account-sharing “undermines our long-term ability to invest in and improve our service,” explained Chengyi Long, Netflix’s director of product innovation.

The streaming service is facing significant business challenges after reporting a loss of 200,000 subscribers in the first three months of the year.

• Netflix is testing a new feature to rein in password sharing, which lets subscribers pay extra to share their accounts with people outside of their household. Subscribers in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru will be able to add up to two "sub-members" who will get their own Netflix logins, recommendations and profiles. Subscribers will also be able to transfer individual profiles to completely separate accounts.
