• The temperature in the UK hit 40.2°C for the first time, breaking the previous record of 38.7°C in 2019. As the country's normally temperate climate is not prepared for such extreme weather, it is disrupting travel and is seen as a potentially deadly heat wave. On a related note: Belgium's Royal Meteorological Institute issued a code red weather warning for heat in two provinces, expecting the temperatures to rise up to 40°C in the west and southwest.
