BMW announced that production at its $2.24 billion battery electric vehicle plant in China, its third assembly facility in the country, has formally begun. The "the first of its kind" plant has flexible manufacturing lines that are capable of producing EVs according to market demand, BMW said.

  • Tesla's new gigafactories in Germany and the US are "losing billions of dollars" due to battery shortages and supply disruptions in China, Elon Musk said, calling the plants in Berlin and Austin, Texas "gigantic money furnaces".
  • Toyota recalled 2,700 of its first mass-produced battery SUVs, warning that the wheels could potentially fall off because of issues with bolts that connect them to the vehicle. 2,200 of the bZ4X SUVs were earmarked for Europe.
  • Ferrari announced it installed a new fuel cell plant at its historic headquarters in Maranello, in a bid to become carbon neutral by 2030 with the 1 MegaWatt solid oxide plant providing a measly 5% of the energy required by Ferrari's production operations.
