is dealing with "economic warfare, completely rational and very clear," economy minister and vice chancellor Robert Habeck said, adding that Germany should prepare for further cuts in Russian gas supplies, with high natural-gas prices risk creating a domino effect for businesses. German utilities are at risk of 'cascading failures' that might require activating a legal clause that would allow them to pass on price increases outside of contract commitments, Habeck also said.

- Winter is coming: Gazprom's upcoming annual summer maintenance on the Nord Stream 1 "will turn into a longer-lasting political maintenance," and could cause a further cut in gas supplies by another 10% to 15%, Bundesnetzagentur President Klaus Mueller said. Mueller also warned of a dramatic increase in gas prices, and that families should discuss keeping some rooms colder in the winter.
