announced that it is raising its target for cutting climate-related emissions to at least 55% by 2030, three days before the start of COP27 in Egypt. Its previous goal was to cut emissions by between 50% and 55% before the end of the decade. PM Jonas Gahr Støre said the oil industry won’t be dismantled, and fossil fuel energy and renewable energy “should go hand in hand.”

• Furthermore: The German cabinet agreed on a bill that will require makers of products containing single-use plastic to pay into a central fund managed by the government as of 2025. The fund will collect an estimated €450 million in the first year, which will contribute to the cost of cleaning up litter in streets and parks.
