This week on Aposto Playground, the Aposto team wrote about the world of indipendent publishing and shared their impressions from the festival Indiecon 2022.
As the Aposto team, we were at Indiecon, a festival of independent publishers of magazines, books, art prints and fanzines from all over the world. The three-day publishing festival themed "Repetition is not a repeat" took place at Factory, a shared office space in a former shipping yard in the Oberhafen neighborhood of Hamburg. We spent three inspiring days at the center of entrepreneurship and publishing in Oberhafen, a creative neighborhood in the city center. We have prepared this pop-up issue to share with you what left an impression on us, what we encountered, and the inspiration we received.
Why Indiecon?
First organized in 2014 by Die Brueder Publishing, an editorial and design office based in Hamburg and Berlin, Indiecon has been a meeting point for the international publishing scene since its inception. With its focus on media, art, book trade and creative industries, Indiecon is very much in line with Aposto's values. Let's start by sharing the mission of the festival in their own words:
We firmly believe that independent publishing is an important part of a free society. Every magazine, book, art print or zine offers a glimpse into another person’s reality. They spark an exchange of ideas and thereby widen your world. Right now, since our universe has been immensely shrunk for more than two years, we feel we need this exchange even more.
