• More than 190 countries signed a landmark agreement to halt the biodiversity crisis, as the UN's biodiversity conference COP15 came to an end in Montreal, Canada. The agreement, which includes 23 targets aimed at halting the crisis including a bid to protect 30% of land and oceans by 2030, was welcomed as a "major milestone" by campaigners for protecting complex and fragile ecosystems.

• HSBC is selling its Canada business to the Royal Bank of Canada for 13.5 billion Canadian dollars (€9.7bn), which may lead to a large dividend for shareholders from 2024 onwards.
