• Finland will make the decision to apply for NATO membership on May 12, to be confirmed in a meeting between the President and the cabinet after the initial announcements, according to Finnish newspaper Iltalehti. A step back: Russia, with which Finland shares a 1,300-km border, has warned it will deploy nuclear weapons in its Baltic coast enclave of Kaliningrad if Finland and Sweden decided to join the NATO alliance.
