Last year, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled Poland to close down a coal mine on its border with the Czech Republic, as the open pit mine caused water drainage and noise pollution in the Czech villages by the border. Even though ECJ ordered Poland to pay €500,000 for every day they kept the mine open, Poland refused to shut it down saying that it is crucial for providing jobs and energy.</li></ul>
