• The Nobel Prize for medicine was granted to scientist Svante Paabo from Sweden whose discoveries on human evolution revealed secrets of Neanderthal DNA and helped scientists fully understand the links between species. By finding the gene flow had occurred from Neanderthals to Homo sapiens, and that they had children together, Paabo's work provided key insights into the human immune system, including our vulnerability to severe Covid-19.
