European Central Bank policymakers meeting last month worried that high inflation could become entrenched, making aggressive policy tightening necessary even at the cost of weaker growth, according to the minutes of their Sept. 7-8 meeting where the Governing Council raised rates by 75 basis points with the backing of all 25 rate-setters.
OPEC+ agreed to cut its collective oil production by 2 million barrels per day at the cartel’s Vienna meeting on Wednesday, making its biggest reduction since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic despite pressure from the US and others to pump more. The cut intends to halt a slide in oil prices that have dropped to about $90 from $120 three months ago on fears of a weakening global economy.
Elon Musk proposed to buy Twitter for the original offer price of $54.20 a share, potentially avoiding a courtroom fight over one of the most contentious acquisitions in recent history, according to Bloomberg sources. Shares in Twitter climbed as much as 18% on the news, and are now halted.
