• Carrefour , Europe’s largest food retailer, said consumers are turning away from beef, fish, and organic food and gravitating to cheaper products as a result of the high inflation in France. Chief Executive Alexandre Bompard said, “this phenomenon has been gaining momentum in recent weeks.” France has been capping gas and electricity prices and giving pay rises and subsidies to alleviate consumers' burden of inflation, which hit 6.8% in July.
