Tensions between Lithuania and China rose due to the opening of a Taiwan representative office in the Baltic state, resulting in China restricting diplomatic contacts with Lithuania in November and stop issuing visas to the country. Lithuania had also closed its embassy in China and pulled its last diplomat out due to the dispute over relations with Taiwan.</li></ul>
