• EU leaders remained in unison in Prague on Friday about continuing financial and military aid to Ukraine but were divided over how to implement a Russian gas price cap. Most of the 27 countries in the bloc want a cap on gas prices but disagree on the details. Germany and Denmark oppose a cap, saying it would make it difficult to buy the gas their economies need and hinder the incentives to reduce consumption.

• EU diplomats met in Brussels as they moved closer to a new sanctions package against Russia, although agreeing on the details of a price cap remained difficult. Countries with large shipping industries like Greece, Cyprus and Malta are reluctant about curbs on transporting Russian oil, but the EU is eager to reach an agreement before the Oct 7 meeting in Prague, Bloomberg reported.
