• France fined Google and Facebook for a total of more than €200 million for not allowing users to decline the use of cookies as simply as to accept them. What did they do? According to France’s data privacy watchdog CNIL, while Facebook and Google give users a single button to immediately accept cookies, the way to decline the online tracking is not equally simple because several clicks are required to decline all cookies.

• European data privacy advocacy group noyb has published details of an internal assessment by Facebook of its transfers of personal data from EU users to the US, which are ongoing despite two rulings by the bloc’s top court saying that the US is a risky jurisdiction for such data.
