• What happened: Ukraine’s counterattack began in the southeastern region of Kherson, but just as Moscow redirected its attention there, Ukraine launched another offensive in the northeast, near Kharkiv, effectively pushing Russian forces back.
• Looking ahead: Ukrainian defense minister Oleksii Reznikov said Ukraine needed to secure retaken territory against a possible Russian counterattack on stretched Ukrainian supply lines, and the offensive had gone far "better than expected", describing it as a "snowball rolling down a hill".
