Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy

gave a speech at EU headquarters in Brussels at the end of a rare, two-day trip outside of Ukraine. Zelenskiy said that "a Ukraine that is winning" its war with Russia should be a member of the EU, arguing the bloc wouldn’t be complete without it. As he spoke, a new offensive by Russia in the partially occupied Donetsk and Luhansk regions in eastern Ukraine was underway, according to Ukrainian officials.

• Furthermore: In his speech, Zelenskiy said that several EU leaders were ready to provide Kyiv with aircraft to help it against the Russian invasion. EU countries supplied large amounts of arms to Ukraine but they express worries about sending fighter jets as it could escalate the conflict onto Russian territory.
• In the meantime: New European sanctions against Russia will include new export bans worth more than €10 billion and will target Russian President Vladimir Putin's propagandists, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.
