• Italian retail sales fell by 0.2% month-on-month in December, figures from ISTAT revealed on Wednesday, following a 0.8% increase in the previous month and compared with market forecasts of a 0.8% fall. On an annual basis, retail sales rose by 3.4%, after increasing by 4.4% in the preceding month. Considering 2022 as a whole, retail sales grew 4.6% compared to the previous year. ISTAT

• Italy’s trade balance rose to a surplus of €1.45 billion in November 2022 from a deficit of €2.12 billion in the previous month, data from ISTAT showed Wednesday. Exports in November grew 18% year-on-year, while imports rose 20.4%. • Italy’s annual consumer price inflation fell to 11.6% in December from 11.8% in November and October, according to the Italian National Institute of Statistics on Tuesday, confirming preliminary data and tracking the broad slowdown in eurozone consumer prices.
