• US plans to invest $5.29 billion (€4,65bn) to secure 10 million courses of Pfizer’s new Covid-19 pill, Paxlovid, as the company awaits authorization by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Comparing two pills: The Pfizer-US deal is almost twice the size of the deal signed with Merck’s for their Covid-19 pill Malnupiravir ($2.2 billion for 3.1 million courses), even though the price for Merck's pill is higher ($700) than Pfizer's pill ($530).
