• Facebook parent Meta admitted defeat after Britain’s Competition and Markets Authority ordered the company to sell animated-images platform Giphy due to a substantial lessening of competition in the social media and display advertising market. • The UK’s Competition Appeal Tribunal has ordered the review of Meta’s sale of the GIF search engine Giphy. The country’s antitrust agency had ruled in 2021 that Meta’s purchase of Giphy in May 2020 was unfair to rivals such as TikTok and Snapchat, and ordered a sale. The Tribunal found the decision erroneous, with claims that the Competition and Markets Authority left out certain materials in its investigation.

• The UK's antitrust watchdog (CMA) said it fined Meta £1.5 million (€1.7mn) over fresh issues regarding its purchase of Giphy. The company stated it did not agree with the latest fine but would pay it. The CMA had fined Meta £50.5 million (€60mn) over other breaches in October last year and ordered Meta to sell Giphy, which Facebook acquired back in May 2020.
