• Japonya merkezli elektronik üreticisi Toshiba , ülke içi çalışan sayısının %7'sine denk gelen 5 bin personelini işten çıkaracak. Mart 2023 itibarıyla firmanın ülke içi yaklaşık 67 bin çalışanı bulunuyor. • Toshiba cut its annual earnings estimate after third-quarter profit fell 88% to 5.3 billion yen (€37mn) and its chief operating officer resigned over the inappropriate use of entertainment expenses. The results come at a time when the scandal-ridden industrial conglomerate is assessing a buyout proposal from a consortium led by private equity firm Japan Industrial Partners.

• A consortium led by Japan Industrial Partners (JIP) is considering a takeover of Toshiba, valuing the company at about 2.4 trillion yen (€16.3bn) in what could be Asia’s biggest buyout this year, according to Bloomberg’s sources, adding that the JIP-led group plans to provide 1 trillion yen in cash while seeking financing totaling 1.4 trillion yen from banks.

• Japan’s biggest chipmakers including Toshiba and Sony warned of a shortage of engineers as the government attempts to boost its domestic chip industry in the wake of Covid supply disruptions. The industry association said the sector’s success hinged on securing enough talent, estimating eight big producers will need to hire about 35,000 engineers in the next 10 years.
